My first flight with pilot Willie

I got the opportunity to skip out on a little studying and take a quick flight up to Amarillo with my personal pilot Willie, and couldn't pass up the chance.

Here is Willie doing some pre-flight inspection on the bird
Willie on the right, Mike on the left. (father son action)
Evidence that Lubbock actually is pretty flat
The remains of a rather large tank. Notice how heavy the cow path is going into what remaining water there is.
We are now getting out of the south plains and into the canyon country
What I would do to have that house, that view has to be amazing
Father and son flying into the farm
Willie making sure that the rotor break is on.

Late Bloom In Texas

The past few months in this great state have been plagued with drought. It isn't the usual summer drought where you can't water your lawn from 7AM-7PM, which is in affect, but we have seen devastating wildfires throughout the Big Bend area, through the south planes, and as far east as Possum Kingdom lake. These terrible conditions can be seen no matter where you go. You could see the Dickens county fire from I-20, or 114. The smoke has enveloped the whole state practically. When driving from Lubbock to Sweetwater you can see the charred remains of the Justiceburg fire. Recently the rains have actually started falling around the state. Not nearly enough, but we will take what we can get. With the small amounts of rain we have received, we are starting to see the wildflowers bloom.

Palo Duro Canyon Trip With The Guys

Since the school year is pretty much over, I decided to plan a trip out to Palo Duro with my longtime friends Beachner (the model from my first blog post) and Kramer. They drove in from Dallas late friday night, and we drove up to Tanglewood at around 1AM. The next morning we set off for the canyon, and I think they had a lot of fun getting to experience what the big empty has to offer. I don't know if I was more excited to return to the place I love, or that people actually agreed to drive out to Lubbock. Either way, it was an awesome trip.

Time to go home!

School is finally over for the semester, which means for the last week I've been thinking of creative ways to study. A few days ago I took my camera out to Dunbar lake to take pictures of a burrow owl, but I never found him. Instead I just took pictures of P-Dogs.

Brave little guy that let me get close. He was busy eating the grass right next to his hole.
